About Us

Founded in May 2017 by two lawyers committed to their craft and to the service of their clients, Mitchell Banks, PC is positioned to serve the legal needs of the healthcare community now and in the years to come. Susan Mitchell and Matthew Banks have more than 58 years of combined legal experience and devote their careers to providing high quality legal representation to healthcare providers in Virginia.

Susan has tried nearly 100 jury trials to verdict and is at home in the courtroom, with a confidence borne out of her command of the law and evidence. She has received many accolades throughout her career, and was selected by her peers as “Lawyer of the Year” in medical malpractice law - defendants, in the Washington, DC metro area in 2012, 2018 and 2020.

Matt is licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia and has long been AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. His analytical skills and calm, confident demeanor have earned him a reputation with his clients and fellow counsel as an effective litigator who never loses sight of the civility and professionalism that is the hallmark of the great tradition that is the profession of law.

Catherine Donnelly joined Mitchell Banks, PC in August 2017. Catie, a graduate of Washington and Lee University School of Law, had the privilege of serving the judges of the Norfolk City Circuit Court during a one-year clerkship following graduation. Catie brings an enthusiasm to the practice of law that is seen in her approach to all aspects of case management.

Susan, Matt and Catie are joined by an experienced staff that takes pride in providing first-class support to each of the Firm’s clients. From trauma nurse to paralegal to administrative assistants and operations coordinator, each member of the MBPC staff is an integral part of the team that helps to guide our clients through the stress, anxiety and uncertainty of a claim of malpractice or a challenge to their professional credentials.

The team at Mitchell Banks is well prepared to meet the ongoing legal needs of the healthcare community, in and out of the courtroom.
